Story Behind the Art

Traditionally, the tribal people in northern Thailand have supported their families through slash and burn agriculture, being forced to move their villages every few years searching for new and fertile fields. Based on ecological criteria, the Thai government is banning the timber cut down, trim, and hauling on the hillside lands. The hill tribes have explored new options for solving their economical needs while preserving their communal life, and the answer was found in their handicrafts. Luckily, this new activity has helped them to restore and revive traditions and expressions, which, otherwise, may have been lost forever.

My mother is very socially conscious and loved this gift. She was so happy to receive something that was not only a gift to her, but was providing assistance for women across the world. She said it is beautiful!

high quality and beautiful table runner. surprisingly, it came wrapped in a beautiful delicate paper with dried leaves on it. hard to explain, but the packaging was beautiful and definitely not something out of a factory. They took special care to wrap and ship it and I definitely recommend this product. They look beautiful on our table. The colors are very light. A light gold and light purple. I was expecting the colors to be brighter from the pics, but it's definitely beautiful they way it is!
