    Bamboo Placemat Set (Vietnam)

    The bamboo comes from the mountainous region of Northern Vietnam. Each piece is made with strips of flattened bamboo which are fastened together with an attractive cotton design. Each set includes six full size placemats, coasters and cotton napkins. Choose from sets in blue or white.

    We ensure that the crafts makers of this bamboo set are paid fairly and work in safe conditions. The purchase of this product will help artisans provide food and shelter to their communities as well as generate money to put their children through school.

    The Story Behind the Product

    In a small town along the Central coast of Viet Nam, Le Anh Phi and her family as well as a small group of other artisans have been perfecting the art of creating handcrafted bamboo items for many years. This trade has been passed down for several generations. By expressing their creative talents through the art of bamboo, it allows these artisans to earn a living outside of the traditional means of farming. Her children are gradually learning the process and when she no longer chooses to run the business, it will then be passed on to them.

    The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in color and sizing. Subtle shade variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements are approximate.
