Story Behind the Art:

Nestor Yana hails from the Puno region of the Peruvian highlands, renowned for quality alpaca and sheep wool. He has been dedicated to the textile arts for more than 25 years--it has been a family trade for generations. Yana learned the different weaving and knitting techniques from his parents. When he first began to weave, he worked on rustic looms that he and family members built. Eventually they acquired modern machinery, which in turn allowed them to develop newer designs. Alpaca wool is considered a luxury fiber, being as soft as cashmere, with the luster of silk, and as durable as wool, with extraordinarily light, warm fleece. It is reported that alpaca wool is five times warmer than sheep's wool! Alpaca fiber is naturally water-resistant and wrinkles less than wool.
