    The Story Behind the Product

Akwasi Agyeman was born into a family of 12 children in the small tribal village of Foase in Ghana, West Africa. The family was so poor that Akwasi was limited to only a 7th grade education in order to help his father farm to feed the family. In 7th grade his teacher asked each of them to make something for art class. Akwasi produced a Fertility Doll as his project and amazed the teacher. Akwasi knew then he had a natural talent for carving. After ten years and with the help of Fair trade Akwasi is now married with two handsome boys. He employs 15 people and has built a small three bedroom house for his family. Akwasi and his fellow artisans hope you enjoy their work.

Other Ideas for Use

all4mimi from Richmond, VA, Mar 30, 2008

I received this item 2 years ago as a Christmas gift. The opening is very small, making it difficult to use as a plant stand for a live plant. I would suggest either putting a candle pillar inside or some sort of dried grass. I have a small bundle of ornamental bamboo tied together inside mine and it looks great. I am ordering another one and plan to use them as fireplace accessories by placing one on each side. I would agree with some of the other customers that the item is "slightly" overpriced. However, it's a very unique item and difficult to find a comparable item in stores.

I love this piece! I am not using it as a flower pot, but I have it sitting in a corner on a small leather table and it simply looks like a piece of art! WONDERFUL!!!!

Very unique item

msanton1 from Wilmington, DE, Jan 8, 2008

The item is very unique and looks just like the picture. I don't know if the opening is big enough to fit a plant or pot inside since I am just using this flower pot as a decoration by my front door. I really like the design of this flower pot and perhaps one day I will add a flower to it.

Very Pleased

van615 from Easton, PA, Nov 7, 2007

I was very pleased with this item. The overall size is great, but the 'pot' is a little small. I do not used it as a planter, instead I use it to hold small items . I think it is unique and a good value.
