The Story Behind the Product
Akwasi Agyeman was born into a family of 12 children in the small tribal village of Foase in Ghana, West Africa. The family was so poor that Akwasi was limited to only a 7th grade education in order to help his father farm to feed the family. In 7th grade his teacher asked each of them to make something for art class. Akwasi produced a Fertility Doll as his project and amazed the teacher. Akwasi knew then he had a natural talent for carving. After ten years and with the help of Fair trade Akwasi is now married with two handsome boys. He employs 15 people and has built a small three bedroom house for his family. Akwasi and his fellow artisans hope you enjoy their work.

It's cool, it's exotic, it's colorful (but not TOO colorful) and it's a great little accent piece. But check the measurements -- it's very little. I have it as a drink table between two leather chairs I also got from overstock. The colors are more muted than the pic on the website, but that's fine. There's a crack at the bottom of the man where it meets the base, but that adds to the look. I highly recommend it!

Great carving and coloring on this little guy! He gets a lot of compliments. If they came in various sizes/designs I would purchase them. Just the right size to use a an accent piece or if you don't mind covering up the work on top, you could use it as a small stand.

This was EXACTLY as it appeared on line...maybe even better. The detail in the carvings was very nice. It was soo pretty, I didn't want to set it on the floor because it is not tall enough for someone walking around to see the figure underneath the table top. I definitely recommend this to anyone
