However, some rug scholars argue that the Turkoman gul has originated from an ancient Turkish word meaning family or tribe, and historically each tribe had its own symbolic version of gul
Rug features rich tones in camel, ivory, beige and grey

Story Behind the Art:

Rug weaving is one of the biggest industries in the Middle East, employing thousands. Weaving one rug may take years and may involve an entire family. Children often watch the sheep that are raised on the family farms until they are ready to be sheared. Men then shear these sheep and the wool is hand-spun mostly by older women. Then the master designers and weavers, usually the young women in the family, step in and create these global beauties. To make their jobs more fun, the weavers often change the designs of the rugs. 'It is like painting,' says Fatima, a 17-year old who goes to school in the mornings and helps her mom in the afternoons. 'I like to use my favorite colors on the rugs, because I want to like them when they are finished.'
