Story Behind the Art:
HSSS is a non-profit organization that works for the uplifting and development of underprivileged artisans. It is composed mainly of male artisans, both Hindu and Muslim, who suffer educational, training and health related issues. The hardships that these people go through include physical handicaps, illiteracy, extreme poverty, entrapment in lower castes, lack of knowledge about trade and markets, among others. The artisans don't have knowledge of marketing skills and have many barriers to access international trade. However, they are very skilled in making wooden products and are committed to quality, so production is not a problem for them. Therefore, Fair Trade mostly helps them find a market and promote their products. The artisans are compensated fairly for their work, and are given development help to help their communities rise above poverty.

Wooden Floral Treasure Chest (India)
I originally bought this because I thought it would be big enough for index cards so I thought I could use it as a recipe box. However, it was not big enough. I didn't pay close enough attention to the dimensions. OOPS!! Oh well, it is a very nice money bank which is what it is made to be. I gave it to my sister as a birthday gift and she loves it because it locks and her kids can't take her money. It worked out great!!

A small christmas gift for a 7 year old boy - the lock makes it so special. I filled it with polished coins, silver dollars, etc. He will enjoy this secret place for days to come. The brass adds authentication to the design.

I loved this little treasure chest! I have always liked things like this since i have been a little girl. I loved the fact that it had a key, made it even more lovely. The quality of this product is quite good. You can tell it was handmade and built with great care. I definately recommend this to anyone who likes these sort of things!
