Arrived ahead of schedule and without damage. Unfortunately, detailed woodwork is limited to only one side of the screen. This was unexpected; I've never seen a shoji screen - either here or in Japan - with woodwork on only one side. As such, the piece is over-priced.
We placed the screen on a window sill to provide shade from the sun. Easy enough to take down if sun is not an issue or we want to enjoy the view outside. The large, top-angled window was not conducive to a normal blind or curtain, so this was a reasonable alternative solution.
I bought these 2 weeks ago & at this point all 4 screens have major tears in them. The fabric rips very very easily. If you have kids or pets, I would not recommend these screens. My cat put a hole in one the first night & my kids bumped them the next day, ripping (large rips) in 2 more - basically they're now a mess. I have another set that are similar that have never ripped - they;re made with a strong material while these are only a step up from tissue paper! They are attractive like the photo shows.
I purchased this screen to cover a storage access door located about 8 feet from the floor in our family room. It will hang on the wall as an art piece, but the hinged panels will swing open to allow easy access to the door. This screen will be a lovely, functional focal point in our mid-century modern/Zen-themed room. My only small criticism is that the black finish is really shiny, but since it won't be hanging at eye level, not a big deal at all. Absolutely merits 5 stars for appearance, function and price.
