Why did you choose this product?
I always wanted a Shoji lamp and now I have a beauty. My master bedroom has a ceiling fan without lights, so I was relying on 2 small table lamps far from the door. I put the Shoji lamp next to the door and by using an extension cord, was able to put the on off button next to the high wall switch for the ceiling fan to turn on as I came in the room. The light casts a wonderful shaded glow in the room, very restful and relaxing, perfect for a bedroom retreat....
Windowpane Shoji Floor Lamp (China)
This beautiful Soji floor lamp brings a touch of the exotic to any room with the oriental styling. It is a sturdy piece constructed of spruce wood, with attractive rice paper panes and is earth-friendly. The perfect gift for the eco-conscious.
Brighten your home with this oriental style of our Windowpane Shoji Lamp.
Made in Southern China, this lamp is constructed of spruce and rice paper. The piece stands 72 inches tall x 12 inches wide and comes in your choice of black, rosewood, honey, or natural wooden frames. Rice paper is made by cutting the pith of a large herb (Fatsia papyrifera, related to the ginseng) into one roll or sheet, which is flattened out under pressure; then outlines of lamps are made with spruce wood and the rice paper is glued to the wood. China is one of the largest manufacturers of rice paper goods. This lamp requires a 60-watt light bulb (not included)

I looked at about a kazillion lighting websites before purchasing this lamp. However, calling it a "lamp" seems somehow beneath it. I placed it in the corner of my den, and it transformed the whole room. It is a beautiful art piece and has a side benefit of providing light. I tried different bulbs in it, ended up using 40 watt soft fluorescent bulbs which give a lovely low light effect...the paper panes are pretty bright white, so it really needs a soft white (warmer) lightbulb to keep it from being too stark. But it's a beautiful effect. My college aged son loves it too!Read More
I tried to assemble with the tool offered. You will need a wrench for securing the lighting pieces. I don't have one and hand tight is not safe because the lights go up from bottom, not down from top. It is beautiful, but if it falls over one time, will be ruined. Its not for a household with kids. The paint and wood easliy scratches so be careful with touching it.Read More
Well made. Great accent lighting. Used two low watt flourescent bulbsRead More
We really like this floor lamp...used it to brighten a dark corner of the living room. The simple, elegant Japanese design would fit with most any decor. The indirect light (from 2 bulbs) glows through the tall paper screen. It is well made and easy to assemble.Read More
These lamps provide a contemporary source of lighting in dark corners of our living room. I am very pleased with the outcome. The instructions re: type of light bulb were conflicting, however. The online instructions indicated 60 watt standard light bulb; the fixture itself says 25 watt or less, type B. In fact, it requires a regular type bulb, low-wattage. The low-wattage is necessary so as not to burn the rice paper shade. It took us a few trips to the store to finally get the correct bulbs. By using an energy efficient fluoro bulb, you can avoid the heat issue related to higher wattage bulbs.Read More
This lamp was not difficult to put together by one person. It looks great and is well built. Although the wood "cross pieces" are thin (as they should be), the product arrived in perfect condition. No tools are required. I would recommend using the lowest wattage bulb possible, I use 15 watts, since it is real paper and higher wattage bulbs are not needed. A beautiful addition to many decors...doesn't need to be asian decor.Read More
I ordered one lamp and was delighted that it came carefully packaged. It was easy to put together and I loved the way it looked, so I ordered another one. Everybody who comes to the house loves the way they look in our family room. The write up says they take a 60 watt bulb, but the really take 2 25 watt bulbs. I recommend the lamps highly if you are looking for a diffferent look in your lighting.Read More
