This rugs says on the label "Hand Tufted". From the research I did on rugs before I purchased it, this leads me to believe that this is not hand knotted, even though there was no cotton backing. But it's still very beautiful and I would recommend it. The quality is still nicer than you would expect for the price. Colors are a lot darker than the picture online. Very soft feel, if you are looking for a non traditional rug this is a good choice.
