Story Behind the Art
In the early 1980s during Tet (Chinese New Year) people would make a different lantern or lanterns every year out of many types of materials. The artisan, Mr. Thu, found the brocade silk commonly known as Vietnamese Silk went very well over a split bamboo, that if compressed, could form a shape. His lanterns were a hit at the full moon festival, which now is the highlight of anyone's trip to Vietnam. Mr. Thu's lanterns decorate not just Hoi An during the full moon festival, but they are seen throughout Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and every village in between. He now is doing very well, well-respected, enjoying life and retired. He watches his grandchildren grow and is still seeing his business thrive. His daughter Tuyen manages the lantern production in their home workshop employing hundreds of their neighbors.

Very pretty
The lamp is very pretty and the lighting is soft - make sure you use low wattage bulbs. The bulbs are a little tricky to get in though.
