  • funky leather lamp

Looks like something from a Dr Suess book with caveman drawings. Gives a nice glow for mood, doesn't provide much light but a good conversation piece.

The plastic-backed paper shade is very thin. It does not diffuse the light nearly as well as some of the other lamps of this style that I have. (18-inch Marupa-wood One-bulb Helsinki Shoji Lamp & Wood 12-inch Akida Lamp) The decorative rings are on mine was not glued parallel to the base, so there is a pretty big slant - it makes the light look cheap, even from a distance. The three dowels that form the vertical decoration are not straight either, but you have to be close to notice that one. It is a fairly solid piece structurally - the socket and switch mechanism appear to be quite good. The cheap appearance are enough for me to want to send it back.

    Inviting bedside lamp

    Nov 5, 2013

shrekless  from College Station, Texas, Rating:5.0

These lamps on small tables by each side of the bed invite the weary traveler to come down to a timeless place off the busy freeway of life. Their subdued glow actually lights up a surprisingly large area, while allowing someone to read enough to know what tomorrow brings. I haven't had anyone to stay who reads more than a few things on a tablet in bed, so can't vouch for the book-a-night type. The shape is classic and complements my rather simple guest bedroom which has shoji screen doors to the closet and a minimum of superfluous decoration. They're well-crafted and put together - there are no bits that suggest the lamps were assembled under duress. The wiring looks good and solid. In the past I've had lamps (not from Overstock) that weren't made in the US that clearly weren't UL listed and had to be re-wired, but these are fine. As far as cleaning goes, it's early days, but I imagine a fine paintbrush every so often should get any dust or lint out from the bamboo. Anything else will...

This lamp is lovely. I bought for each nightstand.....they are the perfect height and give off a soft but sufficient light for reading. They have an oriental yet contemporary style that will work with almost any decor.

  • Way more ORANGE than Yellow

    Feb 1, 2014

    cinteriors  from Athens, NY, Rating:3.0

The lamp has lot more orange than yellow when I received it. Luckily, the room has orange in it so I could still use it. I would consider this to be quite fragile and easy to rip. So I would not put it where kids can get near it since the leafs are layered in a way that points hang off the lamp and be easily ripped. The positive side to that is that it makes an interesting layered look. Best utilized on a higher self.
