This unique piece of jewelry is the result of a talented small family business in Jaipur, India. Jaipur is considered one of the biggest gem cutting centers in the world, and almost all of the goods are produced by talented artisans working in their homes, allowing them to stay in their villages without being forced to migrate to urban centers in search of scarce factory work. Traditional handcrafted arts and techniques are kept alive, and as the artisans' talents are in demand, they receive better wages than the average worker.

Worth the price
I gave this five stars because of the price. I love Iolites, and this ring isn't my absolute favorite, but that's a matter of personal taste, which should not matter for reviewing the product. That being said, the stone color is dark purple, matches the description and photo. I like wearing it, goes nice with the silver setting, and was absolutely worth the price. Will keep it, wear it, and possibly give it to a niece at some point.

The silver work on this ring is great. Too bad it is paired with a sad gemstone. Iolite should be clear with a deep purple to blue color. Mine was opaque and looked black in all but direct sun. I returned it with help from customer service.

Perfect
This ring was purchased for my Mom Christmas 2010. She wanted a ring that she could wear with most anything. The stone in this ring is so unique and beautiful that it indeed goes with most anything and the details of the silver are gorgeous as well.
