This product is made by an all-female cooperative in the drought-affected Marwar region of West Rajasthan, India. This cooperative is made of 272 women actively practicing this art. The artisans are distributed over the region in various villages. Women from far villages come once a week to the cooperative office, submit their products and collect more raw materials to take back to their homes and work on them. Profits from this art help in the overall development of the group. This region now has medical centers providing basic health services, electricity produced from solar energy, evening schools for kids and vocational colleges for women.

Great bag, wish straps were a little longer
I purchased this bag because I needed someone new for my concert-going. Preferring a messenger bag for this, as it allows me to be hands free and it is large enough to carry necessary items as well as anything purchased, this was a natural choice for me. The bag is made very well with no frays or loose strings, and it shipped immediately, getting it well in advance of my concert date. I was able to fit everything I needed in the bag, including two extra t-shirts when we arrived and the bag still had room to hold more! My only complaint is with the strap not being long enough for the size of the bag and ease of getting into it while still wearing it. It might have been more prudent to create it with adjustable straps, but I still love it and it will be seeing a lot more use in years to come.

primitive art
I bought this bag for myself as I am really into the skull design. This messenger bag is well made. I would describe the craftmanship as a primitive art form, not commercial. I could tell that the bag was handmade, but this is what I liked about it. I would recommend this bag if you are looking for a primitive design that is interesing and unique and if you are into the skull design. The bag hangs well over your body and is lightly quilted, the applique is well done, I am real impressed with this bag and will get much enjoyment out of it.
