Story Behind the Art:
Geeta was the oldest of seven children and had to leave school early to help support her family. After working at several factory jobs a friend told her about a women's beading cooperative located just outside of New Delhi. She went to talk to them although she didn't know anything about beading or handicrafts. She completed their training program and soon was adept at making beaded jewelry. Geeta now helps to teach other women in her community and promote the group to other women in her situation. The fair wage she earns has enabled her to help support her family and to make sure her younger siblings can remain in school. She has also been able to save some money for her upcoming wedding. She is very thankful for the opportunity to be given regular work.

Great Beaded Neclace
Great product, exactly as stated in the description. I gave this to my wife as part of her birthday gifts and she really seemed to like it. It is very unique and it is great that it is fair trade. Very durable in appearance and the beads are beautiful and well linked. Not chintzy at all.

Interesting and different necklace; have received several compliments. I would hesitate to wear it with th a fragile blouse or knit top unless it had a V or scoop neckline; the wires are a bit sharp and can snag. At the sides of my neck I do find the wiring a bit annoying but since the necklace is so pretty with a summer outfit, I can live with it. Following another reviewere's suggestion I also ordered the glass beaded earrings from Chile and they are indeed a great match for a complete set.

Pretty and bright
This is a pretty necklace but the brightness and hues of the beads might be a little too juvenile for me..It's also a little busier than I thought it might be.. I'm not entirely sure if I like it for myself yet.. As I said though, it is pretty.

Plastic not glass beads.
This is definitely not what I expected, having been very satisfied with previous Fair Trade items from Overstock and loved them. The color is as displayed, and the size is as articulated. Unfortunately, the beads are mostly plastic, with obvious seams on most of them. The lighter weight of the plastic also means it sits differently than glass or stone would, and it makes that plastic-y noise when it moves as you wear it. The chain doesn't seem to be actually metal either. Eye-catching jewelry, that on closer examination doesn't look that great. Really too bad.
