Each day Peruvian artisans begin work on these elaborate pieces using techniques that have been passed on to them by their forefathers. The goal is to improve the economic status of artisans and their families, trusting that the artisans will make good decisions and use their income for improved education, housing and health care. The increased prosperity will have ripple effects in their communities. Independent artisans whose quality of work is notoriously better than the average are employed and paid on a per-piece basis, with them setting the price.
