'I learned the art of batik when I was very young, since my mother is a batik artist. She has been making batik at home for 23 years, while waiting each day for my father, a fisherman, to come home from the sea. My mother is my inspiration. She and I still design together, especially the floral and bird motifs that are typical in Pekalongan batik. My husband, Rieckey, also helps me a lot because he knows what people like abroad, and then I can focus on creating. I would like the batik of Bali to become well known around the world, since its beauty is outstanding.'

Very pretty; more a scarf than shawl
I originally ordered this scarf as a Mother's Day present. However, it was too 'young' looking in style (the colors are a lovely but very vibrant apricot), so I ended up getting her something else and keeping it myself. The material is very shear silk, and is really not much of a shawl, but makes a lovely scarf to brighten up any neutral outfit. It came in a pretty gift box, although it shipped directly from Indonesia (or India, I have forgotten), which does make me pause to think about the carbon footprint of the scarf.

Not as big as pictured
Love this Batik shawl. Color is natural material is very light and airy. However, this shawl is not as long as displayed (in almost a saree-type wrap) in the photo description. None the less, it is a nice wrap and see through cover up.

Misrepresented
The item in it's true form looks nothing like it does on the photo. It is less of shawl and more like a scarf - for a 4th grader. I am very disappointed, but I do not want to go through the effort of the return.
