Story Behind the Art:
Yuni Kristina learned the art of batik when she was very young from her mother. 'She has been making batik at home in Java for over 23 years, while waiting each day for my father to come home from the sea. We still design together, especially the floral and bird motifs that are typical in Pekalongan batik. My husband Rieckey also helps me a lot, but as a local Balinese woman, I'm very proud of the fact that I can have the career that I love, and to be able to provide for myself and my family.'

It's lovely for what it is.
Well, here's the thing: Look at the photo. If you like what you see of the product, you'll probably be happy. If you go by the description of the thing as a "shawl" you will be disappointed: while it is probably of the dimensions of a shawl, it is not the weight that we think of in the States as a shawl. It is a scarf weight. If you are wearing something very summery and sleeveless and want to wear this about your shoulders as an assessory, then it would look nice. But it is a very lightweight silk. If that's not what you want, you'll want to look elsewhere. It is a lovely batik scarf, not a shawl.

This "shawl" is very thin and delicate. I was expecting something more substantial in weight. Seems more scarf-like to me. I'm keeping it for summer use but don't feel it was worth the money quite honestly.
