Story Behind the Art
This Lamp is made in a village near Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) under the guidance of Mr. Hiue Chau and his family. The Chau family business supports many talented craftsmen and artisans in the village and surrounding area. A portion of the proceeds for each lamp is donated to fund health care services and educational opportunities for the artisans and their families that are employed in the making of this lamp.
Through your purchase of this product; you help contribute to their livelihood. Om Gallery's silk lanterns bridge the delicate balance between fashion and functionality. Handmade by artisans, each silk lantern has the unique character one would expect from a fairly traded, non-factory made product.

Lovely, functional
This lamp exceeded my expectations. The silk fabric is drawn taut over the wire framing for the petals, and the wire framing is sturdy and does not bend. Lamp has a standard 60w socket. The base is made of wood, is heavy and stable, and provides a couple of channels to direct the power cord so it sits flat on a table top. The cord is about 6 ft long (it could be a little longer in my opinion) but incorporates a wheel-type switch so you don't have to fumble around the base. The lamp is small enough to tuck into a corner but still shines brightly. I wanted it as an auxiliary uplight in my office for a darkish corner, so I got the white silk lamp. Not only does it work as I hoped, providing plenty of light, it looks terrific when the lamp is not in use. I like this so much I'm thinking of buying another, possibly the large lamp. Even better, the packaging was minimal—a plastic bag, the lamp box, and the shipping box—and there wasn't even the slightest damage on the lamp.

I am so glad I purchased this lamp. I purchased it for my home office. It adds a nice touch of elegancy to the room. The size is perfect for my credenza and provides just the right amount of light to the room.
