Rootwork items are carved from a species of Chinese Fir called Shan Mu, which grows abundantly in the mountains of Central China. Rootwork raw materials come from stumps left by logging operations, the removal of which allows faster re-growth of newly planted seedlings. Each gnarled stump is then transformed by skilled artisans into the gorgeous pieces.

I love it! The bowl shows the wood grain so well and is so smooth that it won't scratch anything it is put on. It's amazing to get something so well made for such a small price. I've had compliments since I got it.

The Shan Mu wood bowls that I purchased, 1 large 1
I purchased two Shan Mu bowls, 1 large and 1 extra large. They were both very good quality for the price. Nice detail and very nice shapes. Unique shapes and wood grains. I purchased something similar a few months age and it was very nice also, but much more expensive. I would order these again if the need comes up. Or even for a gift.

This is a gorgeous "statement " piece
I've seen similar items at high-end stores at MUCH higher prices but the bowl from Overstock exceeded my expectations. It was a gift for a dear friend and she loved it. The bowl is very large and she uses it for fruit. It's gorgeous and a real "statement" piece for display all on its own. Highly recommend it.

Very Nice Bowl
This bowl is very attractive. Its irregular shape and variations in the color and texture of the wood is just what I was looking for. It's perfect just as a decorative piece, yet large enough to serve as a fruit bowl. I liked it so much, I ordered it in an extra-large as well. The x-tra large is huge! I was surprised that the bowl does not appear to be polyurethaned as I believe was in the description. It is a very matte finish. I may try to put a coat of varnish on it myself.

This Root Bowl is beautiful and the quality outstanding - a great deal for the price paid. Makes an excellent fruit bowl (which is what I use it for) and it is quite large in size.
