Story Behind the Art:
Meaning 'For the Wellbeing of All' in Maya, Komon Utzil was found in 1989 by a Guatemalan anthropologist. She was touched by the generosity the local women showed her, but distressed by their lack of opportunities to earn an income. Making a living through weaving would allow the women to stay in their communities and homes, thus maintaining their traditional life style, only better. Komon Utzil has worked in more than a dozen communities.

Gorgeous!
Now living in the SW U.S, I wanted to incorporate some real pizzazzy color on my table to accompany my plain white stoneware. In my quest to find and add more bold color to my home, I found these and feel they are a lovely representation of Guatemala. I love the varigation of the purples, as they are so rich and yummy. I cannot tell how they hold up until after they are washed, but until they need it, I will just spot clean them.
