Story Behind the Art:
Born in Java, Liem Hauw began by opening an art workshop in Indonesia. 'I work with textiles made from natural materials such as fragrant root, sea grass and many others. Maybe God had planned this way of life for me. My works became recognized and I started to make my own curtains, floor mats, cushions, and other items. Now I also craft frames, vases, baskets and lamps.'

Beware if you have scent allergies
I was looking forward to receiving these. I have ordered many times from overstock and the quality has been excellent. However, when I opened the box, the odor eminating from the placemats caused even my 22-year-old daughter to pull back abruptly and turn away. They were beautiful and just what I wanted in appearance so I thought I would give them a few outgassing days. I tried everything - keeping them outside to eliminate the gases, finally I tried cold-water washing with woolite. Nothing worked and by then, they were not returnable since I'd washed them. I'm not touchy about scents normally but this was beyond my ability to tolerate. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, frankly. I dislike giving a poor review, especially for a fair trade product, but I'm deeply concerned about individuals making these - their lungs must be affected.
