Story Behind the Art:
Born in Java, Liem Hauw began by opening an art workshop in Indonesia. 'I work with textiles made from natural materials such as fragrant root, sea grass and many others. Maybe God had planned this way of life for me. My works became recognized and I started to make my own curtains, floor mats, cushions, and other items. Now I also craft frames, vases, baskets and lamps.'

Unique with lovely "outdoor" aroma
I am going to order more for myself, and intend to get some as presents for friends. That's how nice they are. Lovely, unusual, and have the most wonderful fresh outdoor smell - not strong at all, though. You have to put your nose down to it, which I intend to have my guests do at my next formal dinner party. :)

- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Excellent- nothing to compare them to, though, as I've never had/seen anything like them.

Placemats from Indonesia
Very sophisticated & earthy look - will go nicely with any dinnerware, as it's neutral and looks especially good on my dark wood dining table, from O. Since the natural fibers can be a little scratchy, I've placed them on top of plain, black cotton placemats, which frame them perfectly. Happy with the layered tabletop look & happy with my purchase!

Nice
These took a little while for delivery (spoiled by Overstock's usual superfast delivery), but were worth it. They are very nice, and the color description is accurate, there is no white in them as the one picture displays. The fragrant root they are made of smells really nice.

like them very much
I like this "world trade" item. In addition to looking good (rustic sort of appearance) they smell good because they made out of fragrant grass (not strong, you have to really smell them close). After spill I just ran warm tap water on the spot and let it dry out - that;s solved it.

Really neat unusal place mats. I love them. The color is best represented in the picture where is shows them black and brownish. So neat.
