Product Features
Story Behind the Art
The Buganda Baskets are the products of the Kaboja Women's cooperative from the Buganda Tribe of Uganda. They are mainly based in the Central Tribal area of the country. They are naturally gifted basket weavers taught by their mothers and grandmothers. They are mostly from the poorest of the poor tribal areas and basket weaving is the only occupation they know. Most of these women are single mothers who have been abandoned by their husbands due to tribal wars and have to fend for themselves. The average annual income for these women is about 300 dollars a year which they use to feed their families. The purpose of forming the co-operative is to empower them to produce more and better quality products for export. By purchasing these baskets not only help this group feed their children and improve their living standards, but also to provide education to them and their children.

weaving artistry
I believe that these are lovely items for wall display. If you are looking for these two exact designs, you may not get them. However the design I got is perfect for its execution...you can see where they change colors and rows! It is to this basket aficionado--exquisite!
