Story Behind the Art:
Akwasi Agyeman was born into a family of 12 children in the small tribal village of Foase in Ghana, West Africa. The family was so poor that Akwasi was limited to only a 7th grade education in order to help his father farm to feed the family. In 7th grade his teacher asked each of them to make something for art class. Akwasi produced a Fertility Doll as his project and amazed the teacher. Akwasi knew then he had a natural talent for carving. After ten years and with the help of Fair trade Akwasi is now married with two handsome boys. He employs 15 people and has built a small three bedroom house for his family. Akwasi and his fellow artisans hope you enjoy their work.
The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.

Smaller than I expected but love the African look it has I current use in my bedroom as a night standRead More
A lightweight item. Not sturdy but attractive and very suitable as a cool looking side table as long as a strong stable table is not your need.Read More
Nice to be able to support third world artisans, however although the carving was okay, the painting of the table was terrible. It easily comes off on a rag when using a product like Pledge. And why anyone would put tan paint in the butt area of the figurines is beyond me! It looks like the figures have diarrhea! I will be purchasing a dark stain and refinishing it.Read More
Amazing accent table - using it as a side table near an armchair: it's big enough for a small decorative vase and a glass of wine...Read More
I love this table. I makes a statement and is very unique. I can't believe the price. I am very pleased with my purchase. I like that it is a fair trade item as well.Read More
I ordered this table about a year and a half ago and it's still going strong. Since I started upgrading my standards of living and decor about 4 years ago I've also since taken the time to become a knowledgeable and informed consumer, therefore I now pay more attention to the reviews I read and am better able to discern reviews left by others. When purchasing an item it is SO important to read the dimensions of the product so you understand what you're buying and to take a moment by walking away and marinating on what you're going to do with it. Seems like common sense but not everyone is on the boat. This is a side table, not a huge accent table, but a side decorative piece meant to make a semi-bold statement from a cozy space. Do not order this if you are looking for a larger than life tribal piece, or if you're looking for a thick, strong side table with lots of storage to place next to something like a couch. Based on the dimensions of this product you can assume it's meant to compliment as a simple yet exotic corner piece or a cultured plant stand, or whatever else falls in that ballpark. This thing was not built to hold your drink or bear a heavy lamp. I gotta disregard any review that suggests its smaller than the picture, tho I do wish overstock would upload a photo giving example of its height. I gave this product four stars because it's a good product. An excellent product would be a finely carved redwood table or something to that effect. But for this product, I feel for the price and the quality it's definitely good and worth the buy. I would definitely consider buying it for a gift as well.Read More
I order that table,to put my jewelry box.sitting now in my bedroom,in the corner, not good quality, not very stable on carpet, its ok,just thinking too much money for such poor jobRead More
If you are looking for an interesting, unique small side table, don't hesitate to buy this. I purchased this table to compliment an overstuffed chair. The space for the table was limited but I did not want to settle for just anything. I am so happy with this table! It's beautiful and one of a kind.. The height is perfect for any standard piece of furniture and the width of the table top is great to set a drink, etc. on. If you like the look, you can't go wrong with buying this table at such a reasonable price.Read More

How to Decorate Your Home for Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa is meant to be celebrated with family and friends as a way to honor the past and look forward to the future. One important part of celebrating Kwanzaa is decorating the home with traditional seasonal decor. Kwanzaa holiday decor incorporates traditional symbols of African American heritage, both old and new. For example, a kinara symbolizes the African American past, present and future while authentic African folk art is displayed to honor African American roots. Tribal masks, hand-carved statues and wooden fruit bowls from Ghana and other areas of historical significance throughout Africa are often displayed as meaningful decorative accessories during the holiday season as well as home decor all year round.
