Story Behind the Art:
Saharanpur, in the north of India, is the traditional center for sheesham and mango wood carving. The forest along the slopes of Himalayas provides abundant source of raw material for the craftsmen.The wood they use is of a very high quality and has an extremely high density. Each paint and lacquer is developed as per specific requirements. These craftsmen create carved and inlaid products for the export market. Brass wire inlay craft is called tara kashi, it requires a considerable amount of skill.
