Story Behind the Art:

Chucam is a small farming village located in the Department (County) of El Quiche, Guatemala. In 2001, eight Chucam families banded together to form a weaving cooperative to make beautiful patchwork quilts and other embroidered textiles. Their incomes have doubled if not tripled, and dozens of additional Chucam families have become involved. More importantly, the men don't have to leave for months at a time looking for work in the sugar cane fields and many more of the village's children are able to stay in school..
