Story Behind the Art:
Khun Pen speaks of her art: 'Making lotus panels from recycled teak has been done for generations in my family. Originally my elders made the panels as window screen guards to keep out snakes and small animals as many people had no glass. The designs were drawn from ancient memory and depict mainly the lotus bud or flower which is a sign of purity in the Buddhist sense. We only use recycled wood planks from old structures that are being replaced with more modern construction. All work is done in a communal setting as there are many stages done by hand. This is not a regular job as we have to tend the fields also. It is a way to do something together and make extra currency.'

Beautiful!
Beautiful piece- looks like a million bucks! I put this in my bedroom over my leather headboard and it gave the room a whole new dimention - I am so happy with it. Don't expect it to be perfect, the panels are not all the same color but it doesn't effect the overal look of the piece after all it is a piece of handcrafted art. Also, it comes in four pieces so it is a little hard to hang but it's worth it!

Great product and corret selection. it really matched the room in which in installed it as a false ceiling. i had purchased 2 and it looks like an ancient temple ceiling.

I am confused on the dimensions. Is it 48 inches across. If so how is each panel 12 inches wide? 12 +12= 24 inches wide. thanks

it appears that the edges do not line up from board to board is this just a bad representation of this product are they all off by that much? on the other hand the inner portion of the design seem to match perfectly. I realize that this is hand made and there are imperfections but edges dont even look close do you have any more pictures of this item ?

The edges do not match at all on any of the panels and the inner design may not match up “perfectly†also on some pieces and the design between two panels will vary. These are made from reclaimed old teak wood from the side of community houses that are 50+ years old. Back then they did not have machines to cut squared up wood like you have at lumber mills in the USA. The wood is hand hewn and between the four panels each will vary in thickness, is not perfectly flat, and is not a perfect rectangle. We do not even attempt to make them that way. We do not guarantee they will match up, but they are close, and when you choose to line up the design as close as possible the outside may not line up correctly or the design may be off slightly as panels may be slightly longer or shorter then each other in a set of four. The color of the wood varies even between each of the four panels and for every set. There is slight carving marks and sometimes the carver “misses a spot†and sometimes a small piece chips off. They see the beauty in each piece not in making them all perfectly alike.
