This rug comes from Novica, the more commercial arm of National Geographic. The organization supports 'local' artists and craftspeople and, at least in word, provides them with appropriate compensation for their handicrafts. This was a real plus to me given that so many rugs are produced with child labour. If you're interested, you can even read about and view photos of the artist on the Novica website. The warm toned colours of the rug are stunning---very vibrant and bright---and the quality is excellent. It enlivens my living room! I purchased a good rug pad (felt is best) in 6x9, .5 inches longer than the rug itself---this makes the woven rug more cushion-y to the foot and will add to the life of the rug over the long term. The ends of the rug don't have fringe but are instead finished with a striped ribbing, which is very attractive. Overall I'm incredibly pleased with my purchase! The high quality, beauty, and ethical workmanship make up for the somewhat steep price.
