Story Behind the Art:

The city is the center of the Isfahan province and is located in a vast region of Central Iran. Centuries have passed since Isfahan became one of the most important rug-weaving centers in Persia. Isfahan flourished during the Safavid era, and served temporarily as the capital during this period. During this time the city produced artistic architecture, enamel works and particularly rugs. Isfahan designers have been influenced by the motifs of ceramic works and historical buildings such as Chehel-Sotun Palace, Madrassa Chahar-Bagh Madare Shah, and the Mosque of Sheikh Lotfollah.. Rugs from Isfahan feature a variety of fascinating themes such as palmate floral designs, gardens full of animals and intricate medallions.
