Story Behind the Art:

Bakhtiari rugs, woven in Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari Provinces of central Iran, are prized worldwide for their luxurious wool and expert craftsmanship. The Bakhtiari tribe is one of the most ancient and respected Persian tribes. Today there are nearly 200 villages in the Char Mahal area, each producing unique designs. Bakhtiari patterns tend to be mostly geometric, sometimes semi-geometric, but seldom curvilinear. The designs are usually very crowded and the colors are rich and bright. The most common design is a paneled garden design consisting of geomentric compartments filled with florals. This charming rug is approximately 40 years old but has been kept in excellent overall condition.
