Story Behind the Art:
This Chobi rug is a great example of how the Pakistani rug makers have cultivated their own style of rug weaving. Chobi rugs have been produced in all regions of Pakistan and each one that is woven has own unique look. Chobis are among the hardest hand-woven rugs to create. The natural dyes come from vegetables, tree bark, fruit and dried shells which all have to be gathered in large amounts and are also seasonal. The wool is hand spun in an old fashion style called drop spindle which in itself creates an inconsistency in how the dye takes to the wool, making a unique rug every time. The rug makers come from war torn areas of Afghanistan and the former USSR. This is more than basic commerce. This is helping to sustain those who were brave enough to start over.
The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.
