Story Behind the Art:
Tribal Bokhara rugs are made by nomads in Pakistan who spend years weaving each intricate detail into these rugs, specifically Mr. Mehta and his family. The original design of the rug originated in Turkmenistan. They are made on portable wooden looms typically with wool pulled from the tribe's sheep each year. They obtain their dyes naturally from local vegetables, flowers, tree bark, minerals, and insects. Graphs, or blueprints for the patterns, are used more often today but true masters create signature designs and color combinations showing their skill.

Truly hand-knotted rug
Beautiful style and colors, soft textured. This is truly hand-knotted (not machine woven perfection). Expect variations in the pattern within the rug. Red can appear darker, almost blackish, in spots when ruffled and viewed from one direction as opposed to the other. Nap is not cut precisely. Wrinkles in the rug take time to work themselves out with the stretching of foot traffic. These imperfections are only noticable to me when I examine the rug closely on hands and knees. A "perfect" hand-knotted will cost 3x as much.

Didn't Work for me
This rug arrived quickly and well-packaged. Unfortunately, the color "nap" was a huge disappointment. When viewing the rug from one end, it appears true to color ( a rusty orange/red). BUT when viewing it from the the opposite direction, it appears black. This wasn't a minor variation in color; it was very noticeable. Just won't work in my front hall. Had to return it...but I still love Overstock for their excellent customer service, pricing and selection!
