Story Behind the Art:
Working with more than 100 individual carvers in Machakos, Kenya, Jedando Modern Handicrafts markets products primarily made of wood and bone worldwide. Carving is a tradition in Kenya with the children learning the craft from their parents. Carved by hand using only rudimentary hand tools, olive wood bowls, salad serving sets, and animal-shaped napkin rings take shape from pieces of olive wood, mahogany, and mpingo, or 'African Ebony.' An integral part of the organization's function is to educate the craftspeople on the need for reforestation to enable the products to be available for years to come and offer a sustainable income for generations.

pretty but small
i mistakely imagined it to be bigger....it's the size of an individual salad bowl....in other words you'd need to buy several.. otherwise, it's really nice....i like it, just wish it were bigger

Lovely Authentic Bowl
High quality bowl with inlayed bone accents. Thick and richly colored wood. Imperfections in the shape and carving of the wood only enhance its tribal, authentic feel, IMO. Bought one for a friend and now I want my own!

Out of alignment
These bowls were okay, but not anything to write home about. From the top they looked good, but each one was less than symmetrical and each sat crooked. They were so dry, I immediately oiled them and set them aside for Christmas gifts, when I had bought them for myself.
