Story Behind the Art:
Mozambique's vast woodlands are home to many skilled carvers who enjoy earning supplemental income by creating beautiful items to export around the world. Fabiao Samuel is owner of the Annihoova Enterprise, a group of 17 hardwood carvers based in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula. Working in fine-grained blackwood and rosewood, Annihoova produces finely-crafted canisters and votives. Fabiao started carving in 1986 at the age of 16. He learned his craft from his elder brother. He is now 40 years old, married, and the father of six children. Our network of buyers have embraced the unique Mozambican products in our line since we were introduced via Aid to Artisans years ago, helping this nation in reconstruction to gain international notoriety for it's modern products.
