Story Behind the Art:
Sree Nakul Chandra Das (55), from Pabna, a northern district of Bangladesh, has been working with cane from an early age, a skill he learned from his father. From the end of the great Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, Nakul, was met with awful working conditions and very little pay. Twelve years ago he had the idea to produce handicrafts goods with Hogla, a kind of grass grow mainly in the low and swamp areas of Bangladesh. He met with HEED Handicrafts and HEED Handicrafts extend its helping hand and organized a group in the leadership of Nakul. HEED Handicrafts provides training and design to Nakul while marketing his products. Now he is proud to work with HEED Handicrafts as a producer and he is able to support his family with comfort.
