Story Behind the Art:
47-year-old Bir Bahadur Bishwakarma started to work at a tender age of 9. After being involved in his ancestral occupation of copper production for more than 25 years, he undertook the training on metal sheets at Balaju Mechanical Centre. Starting the work from just two people, he and his brother, he is now being able to provide work to about 20 people working under him. With the support from the metal smith, he has been able to retain the skill amongst his community thereby providing job to other coppersmiths who come from the low-income sector of the economy. This has resulted in improved economic condition of the community as a whole.

Nepalese Singing Bowl
Much smaller than the dimensions on website state. Bowl is actually only 5" w x 2.5" deep. Workmanship is shoddy and the bowl is all scratched up. Stand is also very cheap - as previously stated. The one they pictured on the website was pretty - the one I received is not. I couldn't use this for what I intended. I would not recommend this product.

Great Price!!
I was looking for a singing bowl and the ones I found were very expensive and some were hard to use but this one is so inexpensive and very easy to use and it makes a beautiful sound! The stand is just ok - came with chipped paint but overall still a wonderful bargain and I use it all the time!

Singing Bowl Misses Sound
The sound of the singing bowl is wonderful when it is struck with the stick. The part I'm dissapointed in is when moving the stick in a circular motion around the bowl, it does not make a pretty sound! The vibrations do not continue when stick used in circular pattern, which is how the instrument should be used. I can still use it for meditation by hitting, but was hoping for a bit better sound overall.

Wow!
When used correctly, get ready for a sonic vibration that's simply otherworldly. Beautifully made and pleasing to look at. the sound is stangely hypnotic and mezmerizing. Deffinately an object that belongs in any oriental collection. These bowls have been used for centuries in the Far East as an aid to worship and meditation. Make sure you learn how to use it corectly, its a bit tricky. I'll give you a hint, you don't hit it with the woode mallet.

works well once you figure it out
This was a gift for my daughter. I could not make the bowl sing however she knew how to work it. She is delighted with the bowl. It is small and if I were to buy one again I might look for a larger one, but overall a good bowl for the price.
