    Story Behind the Art:

    The Ndebele tribe is one of the smallest and most colorful in South Africa. Living in the Gauteng province, making beaded dolls is among the oldest, most revered tribal practices. Representing the recipient, the doll's clothes and the colors used say something about the reason the gift is made and given to a woman.

    This doll was handcrafted by a collective of tribal women. Purchase of this doll helps these women and their families lead better lives by putting their children through school and improve their living conditions. The doll is imported directly from these women, using fair-trade methods, to assure that they receive the full value of their labor.
