Story Behind the Art:
Khun Pen Making lotus panels from recycled teak has been done for generations in my family. Originally my elders made the panels as window screen guards to keep out snakes and small animals as many people had no glass. The designs were drawn from ancient memory and depict mainly the lotus bud or flower which is a sign of purity in the Buddhist sense. We only use recycled wood planks from old structures that are being replaced with more modern construction. All work is done in a communal setting as there are many stages done by hand; as such panels are not of a perfect size or thickness. This is not a regular job as we have to tend the fields also. It is a way to do something together and make extra currency

Lotus Panel
This piece is exactly what I was looking for! It loses one star for the finish. It is a little rough looking and could have been sanded more thoroughly and/or maybe just given a thicker coat of stain but it is still quite beautiful!
- Did the color match the color displayed onsite? The picture has changed since I purchased this in March 2012. Mine is much less streaky than the picture and is a beautiful uniform shade of brown.

Not good at all.
Smelled weird. Broke when I opened the box. Plus, the stain was streaky and irregular. Even if it hadn't broken, I would have sent it back. Also, it felt more like styrofoam than wood.
