Story Behind the Art
These alabaster wonders have been made in the same workshop for the past 12 years. Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Nabi, the artisan, was born in the Egyptian countryside and moved to Cairo at an early age. Mr. Abdel Nabi has worked in the field of marble, alabaster and stone for most of his adult life.
What is Worldstock?
Alabaster products are manufactured by hand, using alabaster from every commercial quarry in Egypt. Alabaster is a natural, translucent marble which can vary in color from a clear lemon color to a rich shade of mango orange or even a very light cafe au lait. Each piece will be unique and variation from the photo should not be considered a flaw.

Bad Workmanship
I purchased two of these lamps; and even though there was a disclaimer that no two lamps will be the same because of the workmanship, the two lamps were so distinctly different. One was at least two inches taller than the other one and one inch wider. The workmanship was horrible. They glued the four pieces together and you can still see the glue marks. The socket ensemble fell off the lamps when I removed the lamps from its box. It didn't have a bottom piece so when I turned on the lamps and left it on for awhile, the furniture where the lamps were placed were hot to the touch. Lastly, the alabaster was of poor quality and looked nothing like the picture.

large rectangular lamp
this lamp was much smaller than it appeared in photos. did not even include a light bulb or specifications on type of bulb required. Price very high for value of actual product.

Beautiful light, but very poor craftsmanship
Minuses: 1) the light is much smaller than the dimentions given in the descrption 2) when the lamp arrived the electrical didn't work and I had to buy the replacement cord and socket assembly and install it myself 3) one of the edges was chipped and the top edge of the panels has rough finish 4) the panels were glued together crooked and if you look from the top instead of forming a square they form a lopsided trapezoidal shape. 5) the electrical cord doesn't fit flat throught the groove and barely fits sideways 6) there were no rubber feet provided or attached to the lamp so I had to go purchase them separately 7) there are drops of glue along the seam on the inside of the lamp Pluses: when the light is on - it creates a very sexy warm atmosphere and the lamp looks pretty when you don't see all the defects - probably the only reason I didn't return it... yet. Still thinking :(

This lamp is fabulous!!
I recently ordered on line, the large alabaster lamp which has a wonderful contemporary rectangular shape. It is a fabulous accessory to my home which is reflective on modern design and high end furnishing from Italy. As a person who has a fascination for exotic lighting fixtures, I found the translucent quality of alabaster to be quite seductive, especially in the evening hours. I strongly recommend products to my friends and business associates, since I work in the design industry as a sales representative for ELLE DECOR and Metropolitan Home magazines. In short, this item is a real find, and is well priced considering its' size, and smart finish.
