  • Ikekomi-Gata 'Small Lantern' truly is elegant

Anyone who has priced Japanese style lanterns for their garden has no doubt been taken aback by the high cost. Nice ones are usually made of solid granite and cost a fortune. This "Volcanic Ash" Elegant Ikekomi-Gata 'Small Lantern' is a really great compromise. The price is extremely appealing (Less than ******), and the design is incredibly beautiful. I am no expert in Japanese design, so I cannot attest to its authenticity, but this small lantern is so beautiful, with it's intricate detailing and slender body. The roof is large and has a very artistic "tiled" appearance. The overhang is larger than usual, probably accounting for the elegant appearance. The base appears to represent a cloud that supports the entire structure. This is all created in a composite material of volcanic ash and cement, as I understand it, so I think that it should probably be durable. • Mood lighting with an intriguing glow

I always wanted a Shoji lamp and now I have a beauty. My master bedroom has a ceiling fan without lights, so I was relying on 2 small table lamps far from the door. I put the Shoji lamp next to the door and by using an extension cord, was able to put the on off button next to the high wall switch for the ceiling fan to turn on as I came in the room. The light casts a wonderful shaded glow in the room, very restful and relaxing, perfect for a bedroom retreat.

The plastic-backed paper shade is very thin. It does not diffuse the light nearly as well as some of the other lamps of this style that I have. (18-inch Marupa-wood One-bulb Helsinki Shoji Lamp & Wood 12-inch Akida Lamp) The decorative rings are on mine was not glued parallel to the base, so there is a pretty big slant - it makes the light look cheap, even from a distance. The three dowels that form the vertical decoration are not straight either, but you have to be close to notice that one. It is a fairly solid piece structurally - the socket and switch mechanism appear to be quite good. The cheap appearance are enough for me to want to send it back.

I get tons of compliments on this light. I also have 2 in turquoise, which have a lovely gradient of color
