Esfahan flourished during the Safavid era, and served temporarily as the capital during this period. During this time the city produced artistic architecture, enamel works, and particularly rugs. Esfahan designers have been influenced by the motifs of ceramic works and historical buildings such as Chehel-Sotun Palace, Madrassa Chahar-Bagh Madare Shah, and the Mosque of Sheikh Lotfollah. Rugs from Isfahan feature a variety of fascinating themes such as palmate floral designs, gardens full of animals, and intricate medallions. Persian rug
Buying a rug at overstock is challenging becuase the photos are not great and there is not detailed information on all the persian rugs. Customer service verified the weight at 95 lbs...which was helpful...but they did not know the knots per inch. Now that I have received the rug I can tell you there are 100 knots per inch. As such, the detail of the pattern is good, but not exceptional. My biggest concern was when I tested the dye on the rug. I placed a damp paper towel on the rug and the dye easily came off in multiple spots. Both red dye and blue dye. NOTE - the dye did not come off everywhere...instead, if I blotted a 2 square inch area, the would be a spot or two that bleed. Unfortunately, it bleed a lot. I'm not sure why. Was the rug ever washed? Is it a reflection of the low price / quality? I am not sure if I will keep the rug or not due to the dye transfer mentioned above. I did test my other rugs which i have purchased in the paste and did not have this problem. Good luck :-)

its huge hand knit woolen carpet but old and used,
well its an original hand knit woolen esfahan carpet huge size but used,was little dusty had to vaccum thoroughly,fits perfectly in my game room ,color looks in some places little dirty,the color and design are perfect for my game room,the fedex man didnt bother to ring just delivered the carpet at the door and went away,how ever the carpet arrived safely,its a good buy for the price quoted,am glad to have purchased,as always I get always good bargain and good products from O;stock will continue shopping with them for all my needs.

Colors nothing like picture
I ordered this rug after much research. It looked so beutiful in the picture. When we got, I was absolutely shocked. It looked nothing like the picture. I actually pulled open a picture online to make sure it was the same rug. The colors are so different and the quality seemed poor. We immediately wrapped it up and sent it back.

Returned it, color bled
Unfortunately, the red bled into the beige and looked dirty. The weaving is hand done, so I didn't expect it to be perfect like a machine made rug, but there were enough errors and loose weave that I returned the rug. It had spots of white that almost look like bleach spots. For the price of the rug, I was afraid that the weave just isn't going to hold up since after three weeks it was coming loose in multiple areas. Very disappointing. As a side note, the design of the medallion on the rug I received was not the same as the one in the picture.

rug does not resemble picture
When this rug arrived, I was surprised to see it looked nothing like the picture. Not only are the colors different, the pattern is as well. I have purchased a rug here before and was pleased, but this rug is being returned.

Perfect rug
Overall I love this rug. I was looking for a large rug that had detailed pattern and is pretty dark for my daughters new play room. I also was not willing to spend as much on this rug as I did on our other rugs. I have never thought of buying a rug on overstock before, but the many good reviews convinced me to give it a try. The rug arrived 2 days later. It is lighter than pictured, but still dark enough not to show potential spills too much. There is also some light blue in it and a lot of navy. But it is beautiful, very well made and a fantastic deal. I am very happy with my purchase.

Nice rug
Excellent value for money. It is a very large rug. The red is true blue red, not the rust red pictured and the edge is dark navy blue, not black. If the colours work for you, it is a great rug. It was not quite the colours I wanted as I was hoping for the orange red as the predominant colour, but the rug is nice enough to keep. I am torn between recommending the rugs at Overstock for their good value, but caution against trusting the pictures too much. The colours are invariably quite different and may or may not work with your decor. If you are buying a large or expensive rug, it seems to be a risky proposition without seeing the rug in person. I am keeping mine, though.
