For centuries, Tibetans have been weaving and using carpets as bedding, saddle blankets and meditation mats in monasteries. As a means to making a living in a new land, these hardy Tibetan refugees received the support of the Swiss government and began a cottage industry of carpet weaving. During this period, most of the carpets produced were traditional designs in small sizes. Tibetan weaving is very much a separate category distinctively different than the main body of oriental rugs. Instead of the typical hand tied knots, they loop the pile ply around the structure and a rod and then they cut the pile to release the rod.

Thick, Soft rug
I really liked this rug. It was one of two rugs I ordered from Overstock. I sent the other rug back because, even though it was 100% wool, it felt and looked cheap. This rug, on the other hand, had a very nice quality. Even though the colors were duller than I expected, the rug was soft, thick, and supple. I really like stepping on it. I'm a pretty picky buyer and I liked this rug, so maybe other picky buyers will like it as well. And, great price for the quality of the rug.
- Did the color match the color displayed onsite? No. The actual color is more muted.
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Felt the rug was very nice quality.
- How accurate was the sizing? Accurate.

nice rug
I was really disappointed when I unwrapped the carpet and it looked so different from what I expected. It was greener and the design was much less detailed. It has grown on me though, and hides dirt well, and it is comfortable to walk on- and it luckily is compatible with the room I have it in, so I kept it. It is displayed on a beige background and that really effects what you expect it to look like. The colors are more muted and there is a much narrower range of colors than I thought. It's a fine rug overall, though.
