Story Behind the Art

As a means to making a living in India, Tibetan refugees received the support of the Swiss government for a carpet weaving industry. Tibetan weaving is very much a separate category distinctively different than the main body of oriental rugs. The design is drawn on the canvas in stencil or in outline form. Pile yarns are pushed through the foundation and cut to give the finished rug a plush pile surface.
