- Weavers of Mahal design use the Persian knot, giving their rugs exceptional softness and flexibility
From the mid 19th-century onward, Mahal rugs were exclusively made for the European market. They often feature bold floral designs with spacious patterns, typically using dark red, blue, soft green, gold, and ivory. Warps, foundation, and wefts are cotton; pile is hand-spun wool. Besides using wide and bold borders, Mahal rugs had designs based on small repeating floral patterns as well as allover large scale lattice vine patterns.

Could you tell me the accent colors in this rug? It appears to have purple or blue in it, and, are the red and green as bright as they appears on the monitor? They appear a Christmas red and green on my monitor and I do not want this.
