Story Behind the Art:

The town of Heriz (pronounced Harees) is known as one of the most significant historical places in the country of Azerbaijan. Typically, Heriz rugs are hand-woven by Turkish Azerbaijanis. The inspiration came from the highly religious landmarks in the region. The most famous design consists of a very large diamond medallion or a star-like floral medallion with eight petals, and corners very similar to the centerpiece medallion. Corners are sometimes square or rectangular. The pattern is almost always geometric. Usually the background is very crowded. Today, the Heriz style is copied by India, Pakistan, China and Romania.
