Story Behind the Art:
This rug was created in the Varanasi region of India, in the Bhadohi village. These rugs are made by Mahmood and his family. They are processed and hand-tufted in their home, and everyone in the family helps out, from his wife, Shakiba to the youngest daughter, Jamila. Hand-tufting is a rug-making process where weavers insert yarn into the backing with a hand-held tufting gun to push and pull the threads through a pre-woven and stenciled grid. Once the tufting is complete an additional backing is attached to protect the stitches. In a tufted rug, the tops of the loops are sheared for a softer, plusher pile.
The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.
Tip: We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces.
All rug sizes are approximate. Due to the difference of monitor colors, some rug colors may vary slightly. We try to represent all rug colors accurately. Please refer to the text above for a description of the colors shown in the photo.
