Story Behind the Art:
Mother and baby giraffes wrap lovingly around these cylindrical herb planters. Hailing from the Nyanza region near Lake Victoria in western Kenya, Abaluhya artisans Ronald and Moses operate from a mud hut pottery workshop outside Nairobi called Litoyi Pottery. Using established Abaluhya methods, the artisans spin contemporary pottery pieces on recycled wheels made from bike rims and fire them in homemade kilns.The Abaluhya people, infamous for their unique pottery, occupy the most densely populated area in Africa; the population stretches from the north of Lake Victoria to the westward Ugandan border.
