India's wood production has been an important part of Indian life for hundreds of years. India has wood with wondrous natural beauty and artisans who produce beautiful wood creations of all kinds that reflect Indian culture and thought. India has many trees for the artisan's craft, including mango wood. Mango wood is one of the most environmentally-friendly woods. Ubiquitous throughout Gujarat, which is an area where excessive wood-work has been used for crafts. Mango trees eventually stop producing fruit and need to be harvested and replanted to maintain the orchards. Using the harvested mango wood prevents natural forests from being cut. After the mango trees are replanted, they absorb carbon from the atmosphere and soil as they re-grow. Mango is also dense and hard-wood, excellent for making furniture and other sturdy items. The wood is kiln-dried to prevent cracking and enhance stability and durability.
