This handmade creation is offered in partnership with NOVICA, in association with National Geographic.
Condors soar across smooth tooled leather, the stylized images inspired by Inca art. Crafted by hand, this comfortable ottoman features a foam-padded seat and opens to provide out-of-sight storage.
Jose Antonio Rios and his family have been dedicated to the traditional art of carving and embossing leather furniture for several generations. This activity was embraced by Jose Antonio's grandparents, with the same devotion and caring dedication, using the same technique to produce hand-crafted items bearing their own unique touch.
"For us, embossing leather is a family tradition. My father inherited it from his father, and handed it down to us. Today, my family and I are proudly following the traditions, incorporating contemporary learnings and designs we are ready to face new challenges. We use several types of chisels depending on the intricacy of the motifs. Then, the embossed leather is placed on the furniture piece, simultaneously prepared. Later, works are finished with a mixture of walnut stain and ink, carefully matching the wood color. We are certain that, having been made with so much love and quality, our work will be a proud ambassador of the Peruvian culture and traditions to the world."

I like the appearance and size. Larger than I thought. Its not really an ottoman though. Just a decorative box. I love it.

Great Find!
I love unusual things and beautiful things, this is both. I have had this for awhile now and it has been through kids, animals, adults and looks brand new. It is pretty, but not something you see every day.

Actually, this piece is not exactly the one I ordered. However, it turned out to be perfect! It has less color than what I thought I selected and it makes a PERFECT small end table next to our theater seats. Our room looks fantastic and NO ONE can believe how reasonable it all was!
